WORKING TRIALS JUMPING WORKSHOP
In Aid of the Royal Kennel Club Working Trials Championships

Fee: £20 per handler/dog or spectator
There are a lot of people who would like to train their dogs for Working Trials but many of them
are put off by the thought of having to train their dogs to go over a 3ft clear jump, an 8ft long
jump, not to mention a 5ft 6in Scale jump! They might even have been told that these jumps are
dangerous and/or that they might cause injury to their dogs. However, Dr Roberta Blake* from
Essex University has recently carried out a very extensive study to learn more about these
jumps and how they affect our dogs’ health. The report is about to be published and confirms
that the jumps are safe when taught correctly and the dogs are fully fit.
Banbury Dog Club have been training these jumps for many years and created many Working
Trials Successes over the last 30+ years. We have therefore decided to organise a workshop for
those of you who would like to learn more about teaching your dog to jump and what is
involved.
This workshop will cover:
- What age should your dog be to start teaching the jumps?
- How to prep your pup/dog and motivate it to jump.
- What is fitness?
- What about control?
- What are the Kennel Club rules about jumping?
We will also answer any other questions you may have about teaching your dog to jump.
This workshop is open to all Members and Non-Members, whether interested in training for
Working Trials or not.
Our aim with this workshop is to dispel the myth about the Working Trials jumps and to help
those of you who would like to learn more about Working Trials decide to train their dog for this
exciting and challenging sport. Also to help those of you who are already training your dog for
Working Trials but are struggling with any aspect of any of the jumps.
